What Is This?!

First I would like to preface by saying, HEYYYYY, look who has gotten back into the bloggy swing of things!

Sorry, I'm excited that I have been motivated to blog again.

Anyway, when I was writing my post a couple of days ago I, as usual, wanted to embed a photo. As I uploaded the photo from my computer this sucker showed up on my screen...

...I was out of space and needed to upgrade my storage?

So as the cheapskate I am, I decided to find a way around this. I went into Picasa, or whatever it's called, and tried to delete all the photos that are already stored (they are already on my blog, why else would I need them there?). This proved to not be the answer to my problems because if I deleted the photos from Picasa, they would delete from my blog. Poop, I don't want that to happen! So I relented and decided to pay the $3 a month for upgraded storage.

So now my question is, has this happened to anyone else and have you found a way around it?

Just my Two Cents

I am not a fan of being overbearing with my political views on the internet (or in life for that matter) but I posted a status on Facebook about my feelings on the election. I just wanted to share my two scents as a Mormon and a Liberal....

P.S If you haven't already, friend me on Facebook!

Where's My Winter?!

Before I moved to San Francisco I got myself ready for some cold weather. Being a Southern California gal I am madly in love with the sun. I want to be in the sunshine 24/7. So when we packed up the moving truck I thought I was saying goodbye to the sun for good (or at least for most of the time) and I got my scarves, boots, and gloves ready for some foggy weather.

Well....

We have gotten more sun up here than overcast weather. Sometimes it feels like I am back in San Diego again. But I must admit. I am so annoyed! I bought so many cute winter clothes to wear I want to wear them now!! Bring on the cold weather!

I must say, though, that this it not too shabby...

I Broke My Promise

Okay- I started writing this on July 20th...

Well, I had a really good cleaning post written for today BUT it just didn't flow right. It needs some refining and some sparkle to it. Unfortunately I do not have the time to make it into the most fabulous post I wanted it to be (as the first post of my new blog style it needs to be perfect!) because I'm in the middle of homework, packing stuff for storage, packing stuff for tomorrow, applying for jobs and looking for houses.

Anyhow, I'm a little bummed but

NOW- So this is when my husband came in and completely distracted me. Needless to say, I didn't finish my post, nor, not until now, had the desire to.

Life has been so crazy lately and is finally settling down.

July 22 was my husbands last day in the Navy, that's right folks, mt husband is officially a FREE MAN!

After this with our new found freedom we went to go see family in St. George, Salt Lake, Washington, Idaho and lastly found our new home in San Francisco.

T started school at the Academy of Art (look at my boy so grown up!)
and is growing what we fondly refer to as the Freedom Beard

Overall life has been good and much different but we are enjoying it as it comes. I hope to get back into blogging soon. Now that I am writing again I have realized that I sure do miss it.

Time for Some Changes

Well, now with my husbands time in the Navy coming coming to a close I figured it is time for some blog changes because after this week I will no longer be a Navy Wife.

1 of these changes is blogging more. Yes. You have probably heard me say this a billion times. But I am getting my life more organized...

...so I will be more on top of blogging, and hopefully building a bigger blogger base.

2. I am going to try to move my blog from being about my life to more about Recipes, How-To's and Tips and Tricks I use in my own life to make life easier. I'll still have stuff about my life, just less (because let's face it, my life is less than exciting most of the time).

Let's see how this change goes. My first new and improved post will be on Thursday...LOOK OUT!

It Has Happened...

We moved!

This was our weekend in a nutshell...

We moved to my parents place in Ladera for my husband to finish his last 2 months in the Navy. We have took over their guest bedroom and it is a big change from having our own place but I LOVE it!

Our room is pretty much all bed and a little TV

I love being around family.  It perks me up so much.
AND
I have already gotten to work
Babysitting the cute little kids I used to watch since I was 15

It feels so good to be home!

Easy Honey Wheat Rolls

I have been baking my own bread for a while now I have this fabulous, trusty and awesome bread maker (that I may, or may not have stole from my mom...). So now that I have mastered a loaf of bread I wanted to try something different.

That's when I found a recipe for Honey Wheat Rolls on All Recipes, and I had to try it!

They turned out sooo good, my husband and I ate them all in one day
(we seriously cannot control ourselves)

I wanted to share this super easy recipe with everyone.
If you have a bread machine you MUST try it.

Here's what you need...
(ignore the knives, those are not a necessity, I was just too lazy to move them)

Bread Machine
1 1/4 cups warm milk
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1/4 cup honey
3/4 teaspoon salt (I use a tad less because I used salted butter)
2 3/4 cups bread flour (or all purpose white flour)
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/4 teaspoons bread machine yeast (rapid rise yeast)
2 tablespoons butter, melted
I start by whisking the egg and warming up the milk in the microwave for 30 seconds (if the milk is too hot it'll kill the yeast, and we don't want to be murderers do we?)

Then combine all ingredients into bread machine
(except melted butter, that's for yummy goodness at the end)

My machine specifies to add wet ingredients first then dry ingredients on top with the yeast last

Make a well for your yeast (I just stick my finger down in there) and add the yeast, make sure the yeast is not touching any wet ingredient.

Why am I telling you this?! if you have a bread machine you probably already know huh?

Anyway! Pop that sucker into the bread machine and set it to the Dough/Pasta mode

Now relax!
(I spent all that time looking for cheap airlines, I was NOT relaxing. Why is booking airfare so stressful?)

After the dough is done, flour a surface (and your hands, the dough is stickyyy) and dump the dough out

Pinch off dough. The recipe wants you to roll out the dough and cut it using a biscuit cutter I've done that before and it is just extra work and extra dirty dishes, pinching is much faster!
The rolls will double in size when they sit
Today I wanted to make large rolls, like burger/sandwich size, so I pinched off dough in about the size of a lemon. If you want small rolls, pinch off a small amount
Place on a cookie sheet and cover with a warm towel (I stick my towel in the microwave for 30 seconds, but be careful, if you microwave a towel for too long you'll burn it! Just ask my new cleaning rag) and let sit for an hour.
Uncover your pan and it's magic! The rolls have doubled in size!
(the thought of yeast being alive and doing crazy things in the bread freaks me out so I like to think of it as magic)

(I don't really shape my rolls all nice but you can if you want, I just plop them on the pan for the "rustic" look)

During this time you can preheat the oven to 350

After the hour, bake rolls for 10-15 minutes
Since I made large rolls yesterday I baked them for around 13 minutes

Once finished you'll pull out these scrumptious rolls.
Brush with melted butter (I leave some rolls unbuttered because they are better for sandwiches, less greasy on the fingertips)
and transfer to a cooling rack
(My kitchen is unequipped  so normally ghetto rig some cooling contraption, this day it was made out of aluminum foil)

If you practice self control (like me) don't even wait for it to cool. Steamy warm bread is sooo good, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Enjoy!

Packing!

I can't believe this is happening so fast! Today my mom came down (she lovesss me!) to help me do some more packing. Today we took all the pictures off the walls, packed up our bookshelves, boxed up kitchen appliances, just about everything that is not a necessity has been packed. It is looking so bare and sad in our house. Just as it did when we first moved in. My husband officially has 40 more days in the Navy (not counting all the leave we will be taking) and we will be officially moved out of our apartment on June 2nd.

Is this happening?

This is really happening!

Time to move onto a new much better chapter...

The 12 Tribes of Israel Can Make a Mean Sandwich!

First, Thank you to all the lovely new followers! I am so excited you want to share my adventures with me!

On Friday this lovely lady...

The best momma ever! Came to visit me.
We went and did some shopping at the new Exchange
Hit up the Commissary
Then hit up the Yellow Deli for lunch

I wish they had locations everywhere because it is so AMAZING!
If you live near these places:

Chattanooga, TN
Vista, CA
Valley Center, CA
Boulder, CO
Ruthland, VT
Island Pond, VT
Oneonta, NY
Oak Hill, NY
Chilliwack, B.C (Canada)

You NEED to eat here
1. It is super cute!
 (from yellowdeli.com)

2. Their food is DELISH
(look at this yummy menu!
and most of their food is grown on their commune/ made at the restaurant)

and 3. The people who run it are amazing and super friendly.
Basically, the people that work and run the Yellow Deli are members of the 12 Tribes of Israel a "spiritual nation made up of families and single people who have come together from all walks of life"
They all live together, work together and worship together. They live as a community, sharing everything from homes to finances. The 12 Tribes believe there should be no distinction of wealthy or poor so they share everything!
Some may call this a cult (I could never imagine living with 20 others, sharing my income and not wearing makeup--seriously, that's a scary sight) but I don't think they are...
They are an amazing group of people. So nice and warm, and completely genuine. When you enter the doors of the Deli you can feel such a welcoming spirit.

AND

They can make a mean sandwich!
And that's what is important right? The food?!
Of course!
I intend on going back and trying everything on the menu
If I planned out today better I would have gone while my hubby is at a going away dinner in the area

I am bummed I did not learn of this place sooner since we are moving in 2 weeks
I guess this just means I'll have to go every day until we move!

MilSpouse Appreciation Blog Hop!

Welp, I decided to do this blog hop because 1. I loveeee me a good blog hop
and 2. Because I need to get back into the bloggy swing of things.

Is hosting this hop because of MilSpouse appreciation day, a day which I never knew existed
but right on I think we totally deserve it!

So let me tell you a tad about myself, and I say a tad because I am quite narcissistic and can go on FOREVER, so I'll edit myself.

My name is Delainey, I am a ripe 21 years old and a year and a half ago
I married a very handsome Sailor
I am officially a Navy Wife for the next 2 months
That's right
My lovely husband,
This goofishly tall guy...
who is a corpsman, is getting out in T minus 42 days
(something like that I am sure my math is terribly wrong)
So what are we going to do in 42 days?

Well, in 20 days we are moving in with my parents
(shutter, no, but in all honesty, I am going to have a blasty blast living with my mom,
 dad and nephew again!)
Thennnnn, in August we are moving to SAN FRANCISCO!

Oh yes my friends, we are doing the city thing.
We will probably we slumming it
But hey! It's all for the adventure!

My husband will be going to film school and I will be finishing up my Bachelors Degree/ Teaching Credential and I will be the bread winner.
(and by bread winner I mean penny winner, because let's be serious,
I'll probably work some terrible job for a while)

I love
sunshine,
SUGAR
and my fabulous husband

I hate
putting gas in the car
hanging up my towel after using it
and  folding laundry

Alright ladies, so who is going to join the hop with me?
And if you are coming from the hop thanks so much for getting to know me!

What's Goin' On!

Well, the last time I actually wrote a blog about the happenings of my life I told you we were going to the Grand Canyon, so let's start there shall we?

We decided to take advantage of the long weekend (whatever weekend it was, it was so long ago now I don't even remember!) and see one of the wonders of the world (I don't know if the GC really is a wonder of the world, i'm just sayin...). The first day we got there it was glorioussss! And so beautiful,

Then the next day looked like this...
We could not walk the trails or anything so we stayed in bed and pigged out.
All in all, it was a fun mini vacay.

At the end of March my family, T and I went up to San Francisco to check out our new home.
We really ended up just looking at T's school and getting crazy all day and night.
But really...
We partied
And by partied I mean acted like tourists and did all the fun touristy things San Fran has to offer
Like Trollies!

And Alcatraz!

And the Redwoods!

(please take a look at my nephew creepin' in the corner...)

It was pretty much awesome. It has got me super excited to move there once T gets out of the military.
Which is now only 2 months away!

Which brings me to my next life happening.

I have begun to pack up our house.
I packed up the first boxes Monday because at the end of this month we are out of this place.
Packing got me wayyyy to emotional. This was our first house together. So many memories here.
BOO!
Plus I became an even bigger blubbery baby when I found the box of all the letter T and I wrote back and forth when he was in Afghanistan.

I have told myself to start packing slowly because at the end of the month I don't want to be a frantic fool, running around my house throwing crap in boxes.
But let's be serious...
That is exactly what will happen.

What else?!

 I chopped my hair off!
Please excuse this terrifying photo of myself. It was the only one I had and I did not feel like taking one right now.
I go back and forth between liking it and hating it. Today I hate it, tomorrow I will probably like it again. Our relationship is pretty tumultuous.

And lastly, I have officially lost 14 pounds! Go me!
I have no picture of this because I have not reached my ultimate goal yet.
I started at 135
I am currently 121
And my goal is 110

Once I am at my skinny skinny weight I'll let you feast on the goods.

Holy cow I miss blogging
Why have I waited this long to partake of the greatness?

But I'm Le Tiredddd

So I started to write this post while I was waiting for my husband (who has recently become a scout leader), to come home from his meeting with his weeble wobbles, or weeble feet, or little feet... WHATEVER THEY ARE. Anyway, sitting here alone, all done with homework (for the day anyway) it got me thinking about my blog and how I have neglected it so.

There is just so many things going on right now. We're at such a big transition point it is exciting yet terribly scary at the same time. Seeing that it is 10pm now (T came home right as I wrote the title to this post) I am going to save all the updates for tomorrow. Because there's a lot of them, and they are BIG.

P.S, We started watching 3rd Rock From the Sun and did you know Tommy is played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Tvrage.com

Oh Joseph, Puberty has  done you great justice...

Disneyland Never Gets Old...

This weekend my mother-in-law was in town at my lovely sister-in-laws singing competition. It was so nice to see them and hear my beautiful S.I.L sing because her voice is so beautiful! On Saturday they got to go to Disneyland so T and I tagged along and it was such a fun day.

Even though we have been to Disneyland about 40 times, it never gets old!

Kickin' It Old School

Yesterday I realized a very strange quirk about our apartment. Let me start out by saying, I love our apartment. I love the floorplan, I wish I could just take it with me where ever I go (just add on an extra bedroom or two), it is in a great neighborhood, management is excellent, I have my own washer and dryer (apparently that is a luxury out here), I could just go on and onnnnn....

Anyway, since I love out apartment so much, when I realized this weird, kind of annoying, oddity, it really didn't bother me too much. I just can't wrap my mind around it...

What IS the quirk you ask?

Our water heater doesn't work when we run the heater in the house.

Weird right? I have no clue if this is really the case but normally our water gets scalding hot. Like, don't even have to boil a pot of water, hot. The only time the water comes out luke warm, when turned up full blast, is when the heater is on.

I never put the two and two together (because this has happened a handful of times) until yesterday. It was freezing in the morning because us weirdos like to keep our windows open at night and in a storm. I had the heat on basically all day because the house was so bone cold I couldn't get the chill out. I had also just spent all day downsizing/cleaning my house, mainly our disaster of a closet. This was hard freaking work, especially lugging around the seemingly infinite amount of sea bags (don't even get me started on my hate for sea bags!), and AMALS we have around the house. 9 hours, 4 cleaned rooms, and 10 loads of laundry later (yes 10, we had friends in town last week, I couldn't keep up! Don't judge...) my body was hurting. So T suggested I take a bath. I thought this was some sexy ploy of his but there is no way he, alone, can fit in the bathtub, let alone with me.

So I draw the water, just for me, and I put the tap on Mordor...
because I like the water to literally scald me as I enter, and I walk away. I come back, all excited to lay in a hot bath and first foot enters...

It's cold! Gah. Well cold to my standards. I get in the tub anyway, because there is no turning back now and yell to my hubby and ask him to boil a big pot of water. Yes, you guessed it. I filled my bathtub with a pots of boiling water from the stove. By the time it actually reached a desirable temperature I was ready to get out.

I kicked it old school for about an hour and filled up a hot tub manually. After that I had two epiphanies.

1. Warm House or Cold Shower...take your pick

2. Golly gee, I am so thankful for indoor pluming.
I would never bathe if that meant filling up the tub manually!

Act of Valor

So this weekend I went and saw Act of Valor with my husband and two of his friends. Now, before I go any further with this post let me put up a little disclaimer. This post is not meant to offend anyone. It is just my own options that do not reflect anyone else.

Okay anyway. So I guess as I MilSpouse I should be all Hooyah about Act of Valor, but I hated just about every second of the movie. It was pretty terrible, and a part of me wishes it was a fantastic movie, but for me, and my husband, it wasn't. The acting was terrible. I understand it was real Navy Seals, but I think that was a poor choice. It also made me pretty nauseous. The way it was filmed was a headache and a half. I could go on and on about why I hated the movie, but I wont...

I do want to say though, that it is awesome, even though the movie was terrible, that this movie depicts what real freedom fighters do. Because let's be serious, my husband works in a clinic all day, he is not kicking terrorist behind to keep us safe. The special forces are actively putting themselves in harms way to protect us. And for that I am grateful.

What Sweet, and Humorous Words of Encouragement

I was invited to a Shoe Party tonight. A sister of this gal from church owns this shoe business and is throwing a shoe party down in my neck of the woods tonight. (ps, I checked out her shoes and they are soooo stinkin cute! You can check them out at Twigg Shoes). I was telling my husband that I really want to go, branch out, and actually hangout with someone other than him (I love him so much but I am in dire need of female friends), but I don't want to go because I am scared of being with people I don't know. I feel like I have become very socially awkward and putting myself out there really terrifies me.

So my husband told me this...

"I think you should go. I go and play basketball every day at the gym and when I get there I am literally the only white guy. Nobody ever wants me on their team because they automatically assume I am terrible. I can see the disappointment on their face when I am put on their team. They even call me the B word! It is so awkward and I end up having to prove myself, and show them that I can actually play. But I go to the gym because I love to play ball and I wont let people stop me. If I can get over the awkwardness of being the only white guy at the gym, you will be totally fine at the shoe party. I don't think you are socially awkward. You are great! People love you, they think you are nice and fun and you will be there with people you already somewhat know. Go, you'll be fine."

One, I possibly laughed my face off when he told me that gym story. I just think of my big, 6'4 husband, like a little kid on a playground which nobody wants to play with. He is such a goof.

Two, he really eased my anxiety about going. I am going to go and have a good time tonight! It is about time that I branch out and make some friends.

Weekend Roadtrip!

I am so stinkin' excited for this weekend! About two weeks ago T and I had this conversation...
(I am blue, he is yellow)

And that was that!

So T put in an out of bounds chit and now we are leaving on Friday for this President's day weekend. Both of us have never been so we are super excited! Even though money is super tight we decided we are still going to have adventures, just on the cheap. T's lovely mom was kind enough to let us use her timeshares in Flagstaff, we are packing sandwich fixings, dinner fixings and plenty of snacks so we don't have to eat out.

We are determined to see the world, even if it is on a dime!

My Silly Husband

My silly husband has this veryyyyyy obnoxious habit. When I talk to him most of the time he almost never answers. Then I ask him again, all sassy like, and he gets all sassy back telling me he has already answered me. Well after a little investigating and talking to T I learned that he actually does answer me, but in his head. How weird! When he answers me in his head, he thinks that he is actually answering me out loud.

Does anyone elses husbands do this?! haha

If You Walked Into My House Right Now...

I thought this was a neat linkup so I have decided to participate (for the first time in forever)! Head on over to My Life As A Sailors Princess to check it out. Basically the title explains it all. If you walked into my house right now this is what you'd see...

I clean my kitchen after every use but you will always find a single pot on the stove
ready to boil  some water for Hot Chocolate (my favorite thing on this whole planet!)

We haven't been able to eat at the dinner table for weeks
because my hubby is using it to work on his model train layout

Our closet is a HOT MESS! I blame my husbands Sea bags all piled on the floor
but really I make up about 80% of the problem

We have moved out Family Wall! It is now on one of our red accent walls and it is soooo fab!
(excuse the gigantic sheet of Styrofoam and creepy gigantic Pixar lamp)
One of my favorite parts of the living room

Hope you enjoyed and linkup at My Life As a Sailors Princess!
